Can you imagine a Net Zero World – What is the fashion world’s contribution?

Can you imagine a Net Zero World – What is the fashion world’s contribution?

Innovation is the key to unlocking the changes needed to transition to net zero carbon emissions globally.

If we can "imagine" real change for 2030, 2050, 2060 there can be a generational shift towards innovative methodologies and technologies. This will ensure it is a future we have created and not one that climate change has dictated for us.

"The best way to predict the future is to create it" - Peter Drucker

This statement was made in the context of business leadership and driving a business towards a vision of the future, but it is the perfect descriptor for the need to innovate climate change solutions towards a net zero future.

The future of fashion is innovation … in the materials we use, and the end of life impacts of our products to prioritise the environment .. the new normal to counter fast fashion.

We need to attack the source of the problem … why are will still using plastics and other fossil fuel based or environmentally harmful materials?

Let’s work together to change this dynamic. Imagine textiles that are made from waste biomass or regeneratively grown plant based inputs, completely free of plastics and pollutants and completely biodegradable or re-usable as ingredients to produce more textiles … true circularity.

What else can we visualise that will truly transform the way we way adapt fashion to the environmental realities of the coming decades?

Our Materials

We selected Biobased Leather Alternatives to produce our bags to raise awareness about Climate, Biodiversity and Nature.

What is Biobased Leather Alternatives? It's a plant-based and refers to leather-like material that is wholly or partly derived from the food waste or by-products from agriculture - biomass, originally from plants or trees. iFarmaissance uses a variety of biomass sources such as grape residue from the waste of the wine making process and apple residue from the leftover pomace and peel from the fruit juice and compote industry, as well as pineapple leaf fibres and regeneratively grown cactus.

Our founder’s assignment of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, University of Cambridge is now supported by The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel, in conjunction with The HKSAR Innovation and Technology Commission for R & D Biobased leather alternatives with the professors of City University of Hong Kong to bring this plan to life in a real life scenario and to contribute to a Decarbonisation Solution for the World.
