The grape leather we are using is from VEGEA, GRS certified and it's made in Italy.
VEGEA is an innovative bio-based material made from recycled and renewable raw materials in Milan in the Regione Lombardia in Italy.
The Process
Working in collaboration with Italian wineries, VEGEA adds value to grape residue (skins, seeds, stalks) from the winemaking process. The manufacturing process begins with the extraction of bio-oil from the grape seeds and combining this with the seeds, stalks and other natural fibres from agriculture, through a patented process, to create a textured, soft leather-like material, backed with 78% eco-composite organic cotton and 22% water based PU.
The resultant material is a breathable, water resistant, high temperature resistant product with good physical properties and highly sustainable, with grape marc a by-product of the huge volumes of wine produced annually.
VEGEA is REACH compliant and solvent free. Environmentally friendly, non-toxic, with no odour, zero water, no synthetic or polluting oils and minimal ecosystem impact.
By using VEGEA is our sustainable design under life cycle assessment to support our Sustainable Philosophy and our concept of circularity.
